About
A Man of Many Hats
Okello is a Kenyan-American MC, Producer, Director, Choreographer, Dancer, Actor, Engineer, Developer, Systems Architect, Entrepreneur, and Founder of the Independent Artist Collective Mato Shichi striving to embody the New Age Renaissance Man.
Born in DC and having grown up in Kenya and Maryland, Okello experienced W. E. B. Du Bois’s double consciousness throughout his upbringing with the goal of transmuting his experience into a passion for always highlighting, supporting, and empowering his underrepresented and underprivileged peers. While living in the DMV, he was introduced into the performing arts by mentors such as Kevin Kuchar (of Act Two), Dr. Mark Watson, Gary Daum, and Mr. Asher who inspired Okello to take the stage as both an actor and musician.
Okello would venture off to Boston, Massachusetts where he studied Aerospace Engineering at MIT. It was here where his passion for entertainment and technology truly began to flourish as he would take the stage once again but this time as a dancer and eventually captain for dance teams MIT Mocha Moves and MIT MoveMENtality.
After graduating college, Okello made his journey to the west and settled in Los Angeles to further his passions. In the City of Angels, Okello furthered his technical career as a Cloud & Systems Architect as well as his dance career having been blessed with opportunities to train with phenomenal movers such as: Phil Garvin, Just Jet, Jimmy Weeden, and the Kinjaz (to name a few).
Having developed a unique set of skills and connections throughout his journey, Okello now aims to put them all into action as he culminates his experiences into his businesses: Mato Shichi & Chokoras. Mato Shichi is an Independent Artist Collective aiming to highlight, showcase, and empower independent artists and creators worldwide through collaborations, consulting, live events, and multimedia management. Chokoras is a charity organization empowering underprivileged and underrepresented communities worldwide through community service, mentorship, and fundraising.
